The Photos We Send Into Space
:
Voyager 1 and 2 were both launched in the late 70s and were remarkable successes for NASA. One important thing that everyone worried about was, what about the aliens?
What if aliens decided that our research vessels were weapons from our planet, traced back the trajectory, and sent an armada of angry-looking ships to ravage our planet?
Luckily, Carl Sagan was on the case.
Sagan helmed a committee that placed a golden record on both vessels, instructions to play the record and the location of the Earth. The record contained pictures that we hoped would show the aliens how awesome we were.
In effect, anyway. The phots illustrate some of our most fundamental concepts: math, DNA, the idea of a family. It's an interesting idea, trying to pick out images that might help an alien society understand us.

The images are fascinating, as they illustrate what we've accumulated in 4 billion years of evolution. Would it be necessary to update the images now, with pictures of the Internet?

Why do the aliens need to know what a supermarket looks like? Surely there would be more pressing issues... lol.
I think the images need to be updated to warn the aliens about Tom Cruise's UFO invasion bunker. I will be on ET's side.
