Classifying Facebook profile photos of dude you know

:
Wiggers flashing gang signs real gangstas

This amusing post on 2Birds1Blog sets out a classification of 20 standard photos used for Facebook profile photos - by men.

There's no shortage of articles commenting on women's photos, naturally, since there's no shortage of men to scour Facebook for photos showing cleavage or butt-shots.

But what about the 'dudes'? You know the guys we mean, and you have them as friends on your Facebook, don't you?

She correct identifies the guys that flash handsigns (more on that: White Dudes flashing Gang Signs), as well as the working-out shots, the loser webcam shots.

Yes, the writer has managed to do an extensive search on the types of pictures that men/boys take, trying to make themselves look as sexually successful as possible.

It's a little sad, I suppose, but even sadder when I recollect that I, too, have flashed gang signs in photos. It's not something I'm proud of, or even remember that well, but I know it happened. I've seen the photos.

I'd like to claim that I'm different, though. Perhaps I was really part of a gang, and I'm signalling my other gang members to meet me at that club. Perhaps I'm even the capo of that mob, running around, laundering money and bringing coke out of Newark.

Who am I kidding?

Making America Stupid!

:
It's not my title, but the title of this opinion piece from the NY Times by Thomas Friedman.

Friedman thinks it's ridiculous that the Republican Party is enthusiastically supporting the idea of drilling for more oil, a search for energy independence that delights Americans with the slogan of 'Drill Baby Drill

White Dudes can dance

:
Steve Harvey Collection

This is an old clip, but still worthy of a hearty bellylaugh. This trombone player got up on stage on the Steve Harvey show, and busted out some choice moves. I don't know whether I should recoil in horror or laugh and get on up. Tear the roof off the sucka!

Guerilla Gardening in Tokyo

:
Growing vegetablesin Tokyo brings a little joy into the big city
What happens to all the little green pieces in a big city like Tokyo? It's a city that's overrun Nature, but parts of it still squeak through.

This lady is making use, though, planting a little garden in the little dirt elbow between the street and the sidewalk. She's planting vegetables and flowers, not caring if they get destroyed by pets or bicycles

Eating in NYC for 99 cents

:
99 cent store in NYC
I wouldn't recommend anyone trying this, but it is an interesting experiment....

We've all seen the proliferation of these '99-cent' stores, popping up all over the place, offering cheap, poor-quality products for exactly as much as you're willing to pay for them: $1

The problem with newspapers

:
There's been a long, painful last hurrah for the traditional newspaper... with the advancement of online news journalism, your mom-and-pops newspaper, read in the morning at the breakfast table and on the train, has face dire competition.

After all, if something really incredible happens, what are you more likely to do: go online and read about it right now, turn on the TV, or wait till tomorrow morning for the news to come in the paper

Photographer takes pictures of his daughter for 32 years

:
Allison Radcliffe captured for 32 years
This is astonishing... like any parent, Jack Radcliffe wanted to photograph his daughter to document the beginning of her life. Different from other parents, Radcliffe is actually able to take great photos.

His purpose changed over the years, though. Read it from his website:

Starbucks is helping the small coffeehouses

:
Starbucks hugging mom and pop
Starbucks grew so fast and so viciously that everyone got a bad taste in their mouths whenever they saw one. We've got one in my neighborhood and it's busy, as people that like Starbucks really like it.

One thing that people really hate about Starbucks is their competitive strategy. They're well-known for buying into an area just to put other coffee shops out of business, and they've got ruthless marketing techniques

Cereal is Dope

:
Internets Celebrities Cereal is Dope
I didn't make this video, but I wish I did... these two dudes are Internets Celebrities, made a video about horrendously sweet cereal that you can buy in the supermarket.

It might shock and dismay you to learn that you can get Cocoa Puffs, Reese Pieces Puffs and Cookie Crisp, cereals that approximate the experience of eating a bowl of chocolate, peanut butter candies, or simply, a bowl of cookies. Why not

Bizarre German Gameshow?

I found this video on Fazed with the title "The Germans Are Catching Up With the Japanese"

A man throws toilet plungers at 15 topless men, trying to get them to stick. That's a weird thing to have on TV

An unforgettable movie quote

:
It's tough to beat this one...

Even with 'Play it, Sam' and 'One Ring to Rule them All' and 'Nobody's perfect!' and 'They peed on my fucking rug, man!' and 'I'm gonna make him an offer that he can't possibly refuse' and 'I was cured alright' and 'I've got a bad feeling about this

Dave Barry on Choosing your University Majors

:
Dave Barry was a humour columnist for the Miami Herald from 1983 to 2005... he won a Pulitzer Prize in 1988, which is quite extraordinary, considering that we was essentially a stand-up comedian on paper.

Barry wrote a short piece on choosing a University major, and he basically put a blanket 'No' on any science field
