A Yaoi Convention is "85% women"

:
Yaoi-Con yaoi convention
Woo hoo! You're there, man. You're so there. It doesn't matter why they gather, or how much it costs, all a player like you needs to know is, where are the single ladies?

Cracked has an illuminating article on 8 strange conventions that you probably wouldn't be interested in, and one of them is the Yaoi convention. Are you there? From Cracked:

"According to Wikipedia, 85 percent of the people who attend Yaoi-Con are heterosexual females. And you need to be over 18 to get in due to the adult nature of what goes on inside."

Intrigued? Let's see what else Wikipedia says:

"Yaoi (やお&#12356 is a publishing genre which focuses on male/male relationships... The main characters in yaoi usually conform to the stereotypes of the older, masculine seme who pursues the younger, feminine uke."

That's right - yaoi means comics featuring homoerotic themes. If you're a young dude looking to pick up at this conference, most of the women are likely to push you towards an older, more masculine 'seme'.

I think it's great - after all, us heterosexual men already have a massive market for wildly unrealistic lesbian-themed titillation. It's about time that women got a little something for themselves. Go nuts, girls. Go wild. Go to Yaoi-Con.

D&D 4th edition: the Beholder's Interview

:
Beholder from Dungeons and Dragons
Brazak! This gruesome creature is the Beholder, a demonic floating eyeball with fearsome magical powers.

Luckily, you'd only meet this ugly fella in Dungeons and Dragons, or, occasionally, in a D&-themed video game

Killer Whales found hunting dolphins

:
Killer Whale hunting dolphin
Tourists love going to SeaWorld and watching the killer whales perform their 'neat' tricks. The trainers ride them like horses, they kick balls around and they perform flips for fish.

We love dophins, too. They do much the same thing, except they're smaller and less killer-looking

Try and cash this $360 billion cheque

:
Charles Fuller trying to cash fake cheque
When I was a kid, I once tried to make fake money. With green crayons.

I don't know why it seemed like a good idea, but I definitely had no doubts about my ability to make the fake bills. I was confident that I could replicate all the fine lines

Urinal Etiquette is getting serious

:
Urinal Etiquette is the unwritten laws of the men's bathroom which dictate which urinal you should use.

Not only should you stay as far away as possible from other people using one, but you should try to anticipate the scenario if someone else should arrive

Jon Stewart's Greatest Gay Moments

:
Daily Show with Jon Stewart
With the writer's strike on in America, TV has become a neglected wasteland of forgotten entertainment.

The first casualty? Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which relies on timely news to get their jokes across. Now that its been shucked into reruns, is anyone really interested in political news that happened last week

Bush holds press conference to announce budget for dealing with Zombies!

:
This video is well-made and gnawingly funny. Taking the video of a Bush press conference, and inserting a fake White House reporter, the creators of this video show how suitable it is to replace the idea of 'terrorists' with 'zombies'.

John Zorn recieves $500,000 Grant

Pitchfork reports head of Tzadik Records, and complete legend in my book, John Zorn was one of 25 recipients for the 2006 MacArthur Fellowships, known as the 'genius grants'.

What he's entitled to is $500,000 over a period of 5 years to use however he likes. Hopefully it will go straight into his label.

Stampin Ground split

Basically my favourite British thrash/hardcore band have called it quits.

"We slogged our hearts out for 11 years; harder than any band we've ever met, and we loved every minute of it. It's been the greatest ride and were proud to have been part of it, but all good things come to an end and so has SG. This has nothing to do with musical differences, personal stuff or any other lame ass excuse you've heard a million times, truth is we just feel the time is right to hang it up. We never set out to win the world title, we just wanted to go the distance for 15 rounds and get some good punches in
